A 35-year-old man from Monze, Southern Province in Zambia, has been defrauded of K130,000 after being tricked by a Ugandan witchdoctor who promised to multiply his money.
According to a police statement, the incident was reported on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at around 14:00 hours.
The victim, identified as Tasfex Kayuna, had made three payments to the witchdoctor, Omar Jefeero, in a bid to have his cash “multiplied.” However, when the promised results failed to appear, Mr. Kayuna went to Jefeero’s residence in Kamwala South, near Chimowa Lodge, only to find the witchdoctor missing.
Police officers investigated the premises and found disturbing evidence, including a dead male goat, a headless chicken, and a shallow grave containing a decomposed goat. Upon searching the house, they discovered various charms, fake currency, including $700 in counterfeit U.S. dollars and K2,500 in counterfeit Zambian Kwacha, along with shrines in both bedrooms.
No one was present at the time of the search, prompting the police to break into the house.
Kayuna accompanied the officers to the police station for further investigation, and a formal case has been opened.
The police have launched an investigation to apprehend the suspects involved in the scam. They have also warned the public to be cautious when dealing with individuals offering suspicious financial or investment services and urged anyone with information that could aid in the investigation to come forward.
