In a startling turn of events in Mabvuku on Saturday afternoon, emergency services were called to respond to a case of severe hunger that left a young woman unconscious.
Alice Nhoko, 27, had planned a weekend visit to see her boyfriend, Takudzwa, 32, but her trip took a dire twist when she collapsed from hunger.
The couple intended to leave for sports later that day, but chaos ensued when Takudzwa sought shelter with his friend Tindo, who had decided to spend the weekend with his family in Mutoko.
Unfortunately, Takudzwa wasn’t much of a chef, and the fridge was bare except for some water.
He relied on another friend, Morris, to buy mealie meal and relish, but Morris vanished with the cash, leaving them in a bind.
After consuming nothing but cascade and jumbo buns, Alice found herself overwhelmed—not by romance, but by hunger.
“I just wanted a proper meal,” she lamented weakly, refusing to comment further on her ordeal, while Takudzwa, fearing potential repercussions, has gone into hiding.
