Police in Mponela, Dowa District, have arrested a 24-year-old woman, Nyuma Davison, on suspicion of killing her 4-year-old child, Miracle Rangison.
According to Mponela police spokesperson Macpatson Msadala, the incident occurred on September 24, 2024, in the village of Kamkota within the traditional authority of Dzoole in the district.
Msadala stated that the woman had an argument with her husband over overstaying at his old wife’s home, which led to tensions within their household.
“Following the disagreement between the suspect and her husband, the suspect allegedly grabbed her child by the neck, she suffocated which resulted in the child’s death,” Msadala said.
The chief of Kamkota, upon hearing about the incident, informed the Mponela police, who, along with medical personnel from Mponela, responded to the scene and discovered that the child had died from suffocation.
Nyuma Davison, who hails from the village of Kamkota in the traditional authority of Dzoole in Dowa District, is expected to appear in court soon to face a murder charge.
