A amapiano music star, Zeze Kingston, has announced that from now on, he will not participate in competitions that aim to receive awards.

According to a statement he released last evening, he does not want his name to be included in the list of nominees for such awards.

However, Zeze stated that he will continue to release hit songs and contribute to the genre.

In 2023, he won Male Artist of the Year at the Maso Awards, which took place at BICC in Lilongwe. He also won Best Live Act.

While some have commended this move, arguing it will promote young talent, others are skeptical, suggesting that Zeze is trying to avoid competition due to the rise of other upcoming amapiano artists who might outshine him and embarrass him.

Music lovers have speculated that Zeze may be trying to distance himself from Fada Moti, Bangwe’s rising star, who has been releasing popular and energetic amapiano songs since last year.
