Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has responded to remarks made by Daud Chikwanje of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) from Machinga, suggesting that anyone wearing MCP attire should be set on fire as a warning to MCP supporters and all Malawians.
Chimwendo Banda mentioned that Chikwanje sent him an apologizing message via phone, but they have told him to retract his statements to the people of Malawi.
Chimwendo Banda stated that such remarks could disrupt peace in the country and should be avoided. He noted that threats of arson from the DPP are not unusual, claiming that they have previously burned down the home of the Tambala family in Lilongwe’s Area 24.
Furthermore, Chimwendo Banda indicated that Chikwanje’s statements instill great fear among Malawians.
