Police at Liwonde in Machinga district have arrested two people on suspicion of allegedly stealing steel bars for boreholes.
Spokesperson for Liwonder Police station Ngwashape Nsume, has confirmed the arrest and he has identified the two as Muhammad Dison, aged 28, and Jabil James, aged 20,
The two suspects were apprehended in Malosa, Zomba District, while transporting the stolen items in a pickup truck.
According to Nsume, the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation about the goods when questioned by the police, which led to their detention and the confiscation of the materials.
Nsume added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend others suspected of being involved in similar theft activities.
Both Dison and James are residents of Matache village, under Traditional Authority Mposa in the district, and are expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to the theft.
