A verbal confrontation has erupted between the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regarding accusations of political violence.
Speaking at a press conference, MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda criticized some DPP members for making remarks that could incite political violence.
Banda’s comments were in response to a statement made by DPP’s Eastern Region Governor, Daudi Chikwanje, who allegedly urged party supporters to engage in mob justice.
Meanwhile, DPP Spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba indicated that the party would provide its official stance on the matter.
He also called on MCP to lead by example by condemning those within its own ranks who are inciting violence. The tension between the two political parties continues to escalate as both sides blame each other for promoting unrest.
