Police in Chileka, Blantyre is keeping in custody a 57 Year-old man on suspicion that he killed 49 year old woman, after her goats grazed in his field.

Public Relations officer for Chileka Police, Jonathan Philipo, has confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Leman John, who is accused of killing Inness James.

Philipo stated that the incident took place on 30th September 2024 in Mpanda village.

On the day of the incident, the deceased, who was a goat farmer, had one of his goats eat from the suspect’s garden. This led John to demand a K2000 compensation for the damages. The demand did not sit well with the deceased, leading to an argument.

The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which the suspect allegedly struck the deceased with a stone, causing him to collapse. The victim later died while receiving treatment at Gulupu Hospital in Blantyre.

Police from Lirangwe apprehended Leman John, who now faces murder charges under Section 209 of the Penal Code.

Investigations are ongoing as the suspect awaits trial.
