Police in Neno District have today burned two coffins confiscated from a man suspected of planning to use them for witchcraft, causing significant anxiety among the local community.
The decision to destroy the coffins was made after a ruling by the Neno Magistrate Court.
The First Grade Magistrate, Margret Khobili, ordered the police to destroy the coffins, which were seized from Christopher Manyika who was arrested on 27 August 2024.
Magistrate Khobili, slapped Manyika a two-year suspended sentence to Manyika for conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
Magistrate Khobili emphasised the need to prevent public panic, especially after concerns arose among residents about the potential use of the coffins for suspicious rituals.
The destruction of the coffins aims to restore calm within the community and deter any possible unrest.
