The United Democratic Front (UDF) has elected new leaders to represent the party for the next five years, including the 2025 general elections, during its convention that just concluded at COMESA Hall in Blantyre.

The event, which started yesterday, hosted a large number of delegates from the party across Malawi. Officials from other parties, such as the United Transformation Movement (UTM) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), also attended.

Atupele Muluzi accepted his election as UDF president, calling for unity in addressing the socio-economic challenges affecting Malawians.

Muluzi, who resigned from the position two years ago, was elected unopposed.

The convention delegates also elected Rahim Elias as the first vice-president and Victoria Mponela as the second vice-president.

Genarino Lemani was elected as secretary general after defeating Akidu Banda and former publicity secretary Ken Ndanga.

The position of publicity secretary has gone to Dyson Jangiya, while Yusuf Mwawa is now the director of political affairs.

Aisha Mambo Adams is the new UDF women’s wing president, Esther Jolobala is the campaign director, and Yowoyani Mponela has been elected as the treasurer general.
