Death has been announced of founder of Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) Mussa Chiwaula.
Chiwaula died on 8th October 2024 in Gaborone, Botswana after a short illness.
FEDOMA Board Chairperson Bonface Massa has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to this publication.
In the statement Massa has described Chiwaula as an iconic disability activist.
“The disability rights movement in Malawi and beyond has lost an iconic disability activist and leader whose life contribution has significantly shaped many lives, policies and programmes on disability. FEDOMA is deeply sorry to hear about the passing of our founder, father and true champion of rights of persons with disabilities,” reads in part the statement.
Until his death, Mr Chiwaula was the director general of Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD) and previously served as board chairperson of Malawi Beureau of Standards and board member of the Malawi Council for Disability Affairs.
