Reports reaching this publication indicate that village headman Jemusi, under senior chief Thomas, and another individual have been killed in Thyolo today amid a chieftaincy dispute.

The South East Police Region spokesperson, Edward Kabango, confirmed that the incident occurred during the installation ceremony of Lyson Folopesi as Group Village headman Mankhamba 2.

Kabango stated that Jemusi was stoned to death after tensions escalated between two rival factions. In a retaliatory act, the opposing camp also stoned their relative, John Keliyasi, to death.

Additionally, three other individuals have been admitted to Thyolo District Hospital with varying degrees of injuries due to the violence.

Thyolo District Commissioner Hudson Kuphanga explained that the conflict centers around village headwoman Elizabeth Saulos and village head Mankhamba 2.

He noted that the High Court ruled in favor of Mankhamba 2, allowing senior chief Thomas to proceed with the installation ceremony.
