Police in Zambia have refuted claims that a nurse in Chongwe was allegedly raped by five former soldiers at Pastor Nevers Mumba’s farm.
In a statement, police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the allegations are unfounded and untrue.
He said officers conducted inquiries at Chongwe District Hospital to verify the existence of a nurse named Mirble Chanda, but no such individual is employed at the hospital.
“Following these allegations, our officers conducted inquiries at Chongwe District Hospital to verify the existence of a nurse by the name of Mirble Chanda. Our investigation revealed that no such individual is employed at the hospital, and there are no records to substantiate these claims,” Mr Hamoonga said.
He cautioned those responsible for spreading these false claims, stating that such misinformation is intended to instill fear and panic within the community.
“The police are committed to maintaining peace and order, and we will not hesitate to take legal action against those who engage in spreading false information,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga urged members of the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and to report any suspicious activities to the police.
