Renowned Zambian musician Petersen Zagaze recently shared his memorable first encounter with British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor during a trip to Malawi.

Petersen recounted the experience in a Facebook post, revealing how he and fellow artist OC Osilliation met Ejiofor at Chez Ntemba, a bar in Area 47, Lilongwe.

In the post, Petersen described seeing Ejiofor seated alone at the counter, sipping a drink. Curiosity got the best of him, and he approached the actor, asking the fan-favorite question, “Are you the person I think you are?” Ejiofor responded with a playful “bombastic side eye” and replied, “Who do you think I am?”

Petersen and OC quickly recognized him from the movie Salt, to which Ejiofor calmly nodded while continuing to sip his drink. When asked what he was doing in Malawi, the actor explained that he was shooting a movie, likely referring to the time he was working on The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.

The two Zambian artists spent a few minutes chatting with Ejiofor, discussing the warm and welcoming nature of Malawi, which the actor particularly appreciated when he discovered they were from Zambia. They even took a picture to commemorate the moment.
