Nigeria’s national football team, known as the ‘Super Eagles,’ was forced to spend the night at Al-Abraq airport in Libya as they traveled for their second-round match in their bid to qualify for AFCON.
Media reports state that the players and officials faced difficulties after Libyan authorities unexpectedly changed their landing location, as the match is set to be played in Benghazi.
As a result, the Nigerian team now faces a road journey of over four hours to reach the venue as they were given a minibus to travel with.
Many have speculated that this could be Libya’s form of revenge after their National team were kept waiting at a Nigerian airport in Lagos for several hours during the previous game played in Nigeria. Last week.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Sen. John Owan Enoh has described the development as disturbing and completely unacceptable the treatment melted out to Super Eagles.
