Police in Dowa, on Saturday, arrested a police officer for defiling a five-year-old child from Chinyama Village in the district.
Spokesperson for Eastern Police Region, Ester Mkwanda, identified the officer as 22-year-old Mike Thabwa who is suspected to have defiled the child on Friday.
On Friday afternoon, Thabwa found himself alone with the child in his house where he allegedly defiled her.
“The girl was taken to Dowa District Hospital where medical examinations confirmed she was indeed defiled.
“Currently, the suspect is already in police custody as further investigations are underway. Once complete, he will be taken to court to answer charges levelled against him, ” said Mkwanda.
Meanwhile mother to the child (name withheld) has asked for justice.
“I am in tears; this is painful, horrible and unimaginable; and worse still coming from someone entrusted to protect the community. I want justice for my little innocent girl,” she said.
Thabwa hails from Traditional Authority (TA) Mulirima in Chikwawa.
