Three major opposition political parties in the country have called for the immediate resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja ahead of the 2025 polls.

The three political parties namely;Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), United Transformation Movement (UTM) and opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are accusing Mtalimanja of being affiliated to one of the top officials from Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

According to the three parties, Mtalimanja is compromised hence call for her resignation.

The three political parties are also baying for the resignation of MEC Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mpesi for also being affiliated to MCP.

Reading the statement on behalf of three political parties, DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba, the three political parties have also asked MEC to abandon use of EMD in the transmission of results of the forthcoming 2025 polls.

The three political parties want transmission of results to be done manually as earlier stated by former MEC Chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale.

The three political parties have since threatened to call for national wide protests if their demands are not met.
