Passengers in Blantyre have to dig deeper into their pocket in Blantyre and some parts of the country, as motorists especially Minibus operators have hiked fares due to fuel scarcity.

The fuel scarcity comes amid rumours that the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) is planning to hike fuel pump prices.

a visit to some fuel pump station in Blantyre, faceofmalawi reporter found long queues.

This has resulted to some minibus operators to adjust upwards minibus fares. For example, a minibus from Machinjiri to Limbe is now at MK1000, up from MK500.

This is also similar to other routes around Blantyre.
