The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has banned the sale of petrol and diesel in containers in the cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe, Zomba, and Mzuzu.

In a press statement that Face of Malawi has seen released today on 16 October, MERA has made the decision as a response to the increasing illegal sale of fuel in many areas across the country.

The regulatory body emphasized that it is also illegal to sell petrol above the set price of K2,530 per liter and diesel at K2,734 per liter.

MERA warned that licenses will be revoked for anyone found violating this directive.
