Police at Mkaika in Nkhotakota, have arrested two men for possessing two pieces of Ivory at Mkaika Trade Centre.
Nkhotakota police spokesperson Sergeant Paul Malimwe has identified the suspects as Zindikirani Mtenje aged 40 and Peter Luhanga, 49.
Malimwe said, Mkaika Police detectives received a tip-off from some well-wishers that the two suspects were offering two pieces of Ivory for sale at Mkaika Trading Centre.
According to Malimwe in collaboration with the National Police Headquarters Wildlife and Environmental Crime Investigation Unit, made a follow up leading to the arrest of the suspects at Kaso rest house at the said trading center.
The officers managed to seize the law Ivory which was wrapped in a sack bag.
The duo are expected to appear in court soon to face the charges of illegal possession of specimens of listed species without a license, contrary to section 110(b) of the National Parks and Wildlife Act.
Mtenje hails from Khombedza village in the area of Traditional Authority Khombedza in Salima while Luhanga hails from Kampango village in the area of Traditional Authority Kanyenda in Nkhotakota.
