A 7 -year-old girl, standard one pupil at Dzomba Primary School identified as Chisomo Felix has died after being hit by a truck while crossing the road on 16 October 2024 at Dzomba Zebra Crossing along Lilongwe – Kasungu M1 road.

The accident which involved a Tata heavy lorry, registration number KU 6234 was being driven by Matthews Makungwa, 53, of Chilikumwendo Village, Dedza District.

Sergeant Felix Kwinyani, Public Relations Officer for Lumbadzi Police Station said Makungwa, an employee at Shayona Cement Company was driving the said vehicle from the direction of Kanengo towards Lumbadzi Trading Center. Upon arrival at Dzomba Zebra Crossing, he lost control of the vehicle and struck Chisomo, who was crossing the road.

Due to the impact Chisomo (now deceased) sustained severe injuries, including an open pelvic fracture, and died while receiving treatment at Blessings Hospital.

The driver, is currently in police custody and will appear before court soon to face reckless driving charges.

Police in Lumbadzi is urging motorists to be cautious near pedestrian crossings and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents.
