Former Minister of Gender Patricia Kaliati has said United Transformation Movement (UTM) and two other political parties are not in alliance ahead of the 2025 polls.

Kaliati said this when responding to reporters during a media briefing organized by three political parties namely; Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and UTM aimed at expressing their anger over how preparations for the 2025 polls headed by the Malawi Electoral Commission are shaping up.

“We called you reporters here to talk about something to do with MEC and not alliances. We have come together as UTM, AFORD and DPP to voice out our concerns period,” said Kaliati.

She added: “Whatever we are voicing out today affects us all as a nation.”

UTM is scheduled to hold its elective conference on November 17, 2024 and Kaliati is vying for the post of Presidency in the party.

Kaliati will face engineer Dr. Mathews Mtumbuka, State Vice President Dr. Michael Usi, former Minister of Energy Newton Kambala and former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor Dalitso Kabambe.
