President Smt. Droupadi Murmu, of the Republic of India, today visited the National Memorial Park in Area 18 and Kamuzu Mausoleum Lilongwe, as part of her three-day official visit to Malawi.

The visit to these sites aligns with her agenda to explore sites of cultural and historical significance in the country.


Upon arrival, President Murmu was warmly welcomed by Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Richard Chimwendo Banda; , Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Sidik Mia; Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda; Major General Chikunkha Soko, Army Commander; and Her Worship Councillor Esther Sagawa, Mayor of Lilongwe.

President Murmu was then briefed at the Memorial Tower by Major Emmanuel Kelvin Mlelemba before signing the visitors’ book.

Later, the Indian President went to Kamuzu Mausoleum and was led to the Kamuzu Mausoleum Chamber by Blessings Walawala, Deputy Director of the Department of Museums and Monuments, where she laid a wreath and paid her respects in honor of Malawi’s first President, the late Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
