The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 32-year-old Cassim Maganga to three years in prison for being found guilty of theft at a construction site.

Kawale Police spokesperson Sub Inspector Precious Mabvuto Phiri reported that the government representative in the case, Inspector Fancy Sichali, informed the court that the accused was a security guard at a house under construction in Area 43 during the relevant time.

The court heard that from January to August this year, the accused had been stealing and selling construction materials worth approximately K4,700,000. After noticing the missing items, the owner reported the theft to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest.

The court found the accused guilty, and Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda sentenced him to prison and ordered him to undertake community service.
