Transportation and trade activities have begun to be disrupted in Mponela, Dowa District, and surrounding areas due to a fuel shortage.

Currently, all fuel stations are out of petrol and diesel. Drivers of both cars and motorcycles report that they are purchasing petrol at a price of K6,000 per liter from vendors.

One of the minibus drivers, Sydney Mchenga, said that the fuel shortage is disrupting business operations in the area.

“The government needs to take immediate action to address this issue before it further disrupts businesses in this country,” Mchenga stated.

Malawi has been hit by fuel shortages, forcing long queues at fuel stations across the country.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has assured Malawians that it has more fuel in its stores and that additional supplies are on the way.
