United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Michael Usi has assured the public that a commission of inquiry into the death of the party president and Vice President of Malawi, the late Saulos Chilima, will be conducted.

The Vice President remarks follow a request from Mary Chilima, a wife to late Dr. Saulos Chilima asking Malawians to join her in pushing for the inquiry.

Usi has however, stressed that this decision is driven by necessity not external pressure.

Chilima, along with eight others tragically died in a plane crash in June this year. The incident has prompted numerous stakeholders and individuals to call for an inquiry.

Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) have since threatened to hold demonstrations on the matter.
