State Vice President Dr. Michael Usi has finally declared his interest to contest as President at the elective conference of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) slated for November 17, 2024 in Mzuzu.
Usi made the declaration yesterday when his was addressing party supporters gathered at his official residence in the capital Lilongwe.
In his address Usi expressed hope that he will emerge victorious and move on with the legacy of the founder of the party late Dr. Saulos Chilima.
Usi, however condemned the exorbitant fees that the Central Committee for people vying for various positions in the party.
He said he will use his powers to have the fees reduced.
UTM Central Committee set MK20 million as fee for people vying for Presidency while 10 million for Vice President post.
Usi is scheduled to face engineer Mathews Mtumbuka, Patricia Kaliati, Newton Kambala, Dalitso Kabambe and UTM Youth Director Fredokiss, real name Penjani Kalua.
