President Hakainde Hichilema has with immediate effect, removed three Constitutional Court judges from their positions as adjudicators of the highest court.
Mr Hichilema’s decision was acting on the recommendation in the report presented to him by the Judicial Complaints Commission(JCC).
The removed judges Anne Sitali, Judge Mungeni Mulenga and Judge Palan Mulonda.
State House chief communication specialist Clayson Hamasaka said in a statement that the removal of the said Judges is in exercise of the powers vested in the President in Article 143 (b) and (c) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia.
The removal of the trio comes barely a fortnight after the JCC commenced sittings to hear a complaint against them.
Lusaka resident Moses Kalonde had filed a complaint before JCC alleging gross misconduct and I’ll qualification of the three judges.
Last week, Constitutional Court judge Margaret Munalula and he predecessor Hildah Chibombo were summoned by the JCC to testify before it during hearing of the same complaint.
The three are not the first Judges to be removed by President Hichilema since he assumed office in 2021.
The removed judges join High Court judges Wilfred Muma, Sunday Nkonde, Timothy Katanekwa and Joshua Banda
