Police at Kawale in Liongwe have arrested two men on suspicion of allegedly attempt to a rape a woman around Biwi Admark in the city.
Public Relations Officer for Kawale Police Station Sub-Inspector Mabvuto Phiri has confirmed of the arrest while identifying the suspects as Megan Sanudi, 22, and Precious Njowe, 26, who were arrested by Community Policing members who came to the rescue of the victim after hearing the call for help.
victim, who is an ex-in-law to Megan met the two on Sunday, October 20th, 2024 around 23:00 hours as she went to buy some food stuffs.
“During the said time, Megan and his accomplice were drinking beer and upon seeing his former in-law he demanded beer which she complied to, and then went on her way home,” Mabvuto Phiri revealed.
Thereafter, Sanudi followed the lady and found her at Biwi where he tried to force himself on her but it didn’t work before Njowe joined the attempted rape.
“The two managed to take money from her, drag her away from the path to a hide out place for accomplishment of their evil act but the mission was a failed one due to continued resistance and call for help,” he indicated.
Though they tried to run away from citizen arrest, they find themselves in the hands of Biwi Community Policing members who brought them before Police.
The two have been charged with attempted rape and robbery and they will appear before Court soon to answer charges levelled against them.
