A 30-year-old man, Innocent Nahipa, was seen shedding tears in court after being ordered to pay a fine of K500,000 for evading a toll fee at Chingeni toll gate in Ntcheu. The ruling was handed down by the Senior Magistrate Alleyab Imani.

Sub-Inspector Thomas Lucio told the court that Nahipa was driving a Honda Freed in September this year. When he reached the toll gate, Nahipa tried to avoid paying the K1,000 toll fee. He managed to bypass the toll, but was caught on his return trip, thanks to footage captured by a hidden camera operated by the Roads Fund authorities.

The magistrate described the act as a blatant disregard for the law, leading to the substantial fine.

Nahipa hails from Ntonya village, under the authority of Chief Nsamala in Balaka district.
