One of the Presidential Aspirants Newton Kambala has endorsed madame Mary Chilima ahead of the elective conference of the United Transformation Movement (UTM).
Speaking to delegates in Mzuzu ahead of the UTM convention slated for November 17, 2024 Kambala said: “I am not Madame Mary Nkhamanyachi Chilima’s spokesperson, but i recognize the strong calls for her leadership from the party members.
“I believe she is highly capable. Should she decide to lead i am ready to step aside, even after winning the UTM Presidency at the convention. There is no harm in one person running the government while the other runs the Party.”
Since the death of the party President Dr. Saulos Chilima on June 10, 2024, there has been calls from various people asking Chilima’s wife to join politics.
But the family rejected the calls, saying the family is still mourning the tragic passing of Chilima.
Chilima died in a plane crash together with former first lady Patricia Shanil Zimbiri and 7 others.
