An eleven-year-old girl has tragically died after being struck by a vehicle in Nkhatabay last night. Margret Chanza, from Galimoto village in the area of T/A Timbiri, was involved in the accident with a Toyota Sienta, registration number LL1147, near the Strabag campsite shortly after the Mpamba trade center.
According to Nkhatabay police spokesperson Kondwani James, the vehicle was driven by Gift Phiri (full details not yet disclosed), who was traveling from Nkhata-Bay toward Mzuzu with three passengers on board.
Sadly, Margret succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at the district hospital due to significant blood loss. Fortunately, the three passengers were unharmed.
The police are currently searching for the driver, who fled the scene after the incident.
