Old Mutual Malawi Financial Education Manager Bernard Chiluzi has urged Catholic University (CU) students to embrace the culture of saving if they want to become responsible citizen in future.
He said this will also reduce suicide cases among students.
Chiluzi said this after engaging third and fourth year students from the college who were on educational visit to Old Mutual Head office in Blantyre.
In his address Chiluzi said many students in the country especially from various universities in the country are taking their own lives because they are financially unstable.
“As Old Mutual we believe that after this session the students will start applying whatever they have learned like the saving culture and became better citizen thereby avoiding killing themselves as you have seen recently that many students are committing suicide,” said Chiluzi.
Chiluzi added: “A person is shaped by money and money determines what we are going to be in future.”
On his part Banking and Fiance lecturer Reverend Father Samuel Satiyere hailed Old Mutual for the training session.
“We brought the students here to combine theory that the learn in class and the practical part of it by meeting with people who are on the ground,” he said.
Christopher Chabwa, a student and President of Catholic Bankers Association described the session as an eye opener.
The session focused much on the Big Five Secrets of money management. A lesson extracted from the behavioral characteristics of the big five animals in the jungle namely; Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Baffalo.
