British actor Idris Elba has announced plans to move to Africa within the next decade to support the continent’s film industry.

Elba, who came into the limelight after starring Stringer Bell in America Tv Series ‘The Wire’ (2002), is working on building film studios in Zanzibar in Tanzania and Accra in Ghana to promote African storytelling.

With roots in Ghana and Sierra Leone, Elba intends to split his time across African countries, including Accra, Freetown, and Zanzibar, to help amplify local narratives. He expressed a goal to make a film in his future Accra studio, aiming to showcase African stories globally.

While Elba plans to live on the continent, he envisions moving between countries to stay engaged with varied African narratives. “I’m going to live in Accra, I’m going to live in Freetown [Sierra Leone’s capital], I’m going to live in Zanzibar. I’m going to try and go where they’re telling stories – that’s really important,” he explained.

Among his goals is to make a film in his future Accra studio, a project he hopes will showcase African stories to audiences worldwide.
