Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has demanded for the unconditionally release of United Transformation Movement (UTM) Secretary General Patricia Kaliati.
Kaliati was arrested yesterday for allegedly conspiring to commit felony, according to national police spokesperson Peter Kalaya.
She is currently being kept at Area 30 police headquarters in the capital Lilongwe.
Writing on his official facebook page Chimbanga asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to stop intimidating Malawians who have no intentions to kill him.
“I am pleading with President Chakwera to unconditionally release Hon Kaliati. Tell your Mtakataka police to stop the violence against unarmed civilians. Nobody wants to kill you.
“You are well secured our taxes make sure you get enough security. It could be that you are just insecure Your Excellency it is in your head. Malawians are peaceful people, perhaps what will kill you is the stress and BP once the Presidential results starts coming in next September 2024,” wrot Chimbanga.
The councilor has since urged Kaliati to remain strong.
“To Hon Kaliati be strong. MCP fears you a lot. If you didn’t matter they were going to ignore you completely but they know you were close to SKC and have the keys to unbundle this government. My friends from UTM these are difficult times, continue pressing, He will send his Police to throw teargas at you , they will arrest more more but they will not kill you all. Continue fighting the good fight SKC started. He did his part now it’s our turn. Evil is now ruling this country, but as a people we shall overcome,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kaliati is yet to be taken to court for formal charges.
