The High Court Judge, Mandala Mamblasa, has rejected an application by five people who were seeking an injunction to stop the operation of Section 12 of the Parliamentary, Presidential, and Local Government Act, which mandates the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to accept the National Identification Cards as sole identification for the voter registration exercise.
But the judge has directed that the National Registration Bureau (NRB) register all eligible voters to enable them to participate in the polls next year.
Court records indicate that NRB beat the target of 10.9 million people set by MEC and managed to 12.5 million people.
