AS the nation commemorates 10 years since the passing of former President Michael Sata, President Hakainde Hichilema has urged Zambians to avoid divisive discussions.

President Hichilema called for unity across Zambia, encouraging citizens to embody Mr Sata’s ideals and refrain from conversations that create division.

“I thank the family for allowing the government to support this service, as it is the duty of public office. Today is a day to remember Michael Sata, to reflect on what he did, not just for his family or a group in Mpika or Muchinga, but for the entire country,” he said.

The President emphasised the importance of unity beyond political divides, noting that his government builds upon the accomplishments of the late President and other former Heads of State.

He commended Mr.Sata for his dedicated service to the nation in various roles.

“We say thank you to him and his family,” President Hichilema said.

He added that the government would continue to uphold Mr Sata’s values, such as free education, decentralization, and other developmental projects.

Today, people gathered at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka to honor Mr Sata, who passed away on October 28, 2014, at the age of 77.
