According to police reports, Nanjela had booked a taxi around 02:00 hours from Twin Palm to Kamwala South. Accompanied by a friend who exited in Kamwala, she continued alone to her destination. Upon arrival, she asked the driver to stop near her residence gate and took out K100 to pay the fare.

As she was about to leave, the taxi driver allegedly struck her on the head with an empty bottle and, despite her cries for help, restarted the car and drove off with her still inside. She continued to struggle with the driver, who allegedly struck her with another bottle. During her attempt to escape, she became entangled in the seatbelt, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a drainage.

A good Samaritan, alerted by the commotion, approached to help, prompting the driver to flee the scene with her handbag, which contained K400. He abandoned his Toyota Vitz (registration BLB 6050) at the site with the keys inside.

Police arrived at the scene to find Nanjela with severe head injuries. She was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, where she was admitted but sadly succumbed to her injuries after three days.

Following investigations, police apprehended the suspect, who is now in custody. His vehicle has been impounded, and he is set to appear in court soon
