Three learners of Dalitso Private School in Mwanza District have died while one sustained serious injuries on Tuesday afternoon after a car lost direction and hit them at Liwonde Bus Stage on the M6 Road in Mwanza.

Eye witnesses said that a Toyota Passo vehicle, which was being driven by a man known as ‘Mr Chifundo’ who was reportedly drunk at the time of incident, was coming from the direction of Mwanza Boma heading to Mwanza Border with two passengers on board before the accident occured.

Upon reaching Liwonde Bus Stage, he turned the vehicle around but was now driving very fast in a zig-zag manner before he lost control and hit the four children on the other side who were walking home after knocking off from school.

The three deceased, who are all girls, have been identified as Hamida Mtepa and Happiness Ligundiya both in Standard 3, Tricia Kondwani in Standard 4 while the one still in hospital is Blessings Kakowa who is in Standard 2.

Meanwhile, Mwanza District Commissioner Martha Margreta Sineta has said that she is shocked with the sudden death of the little girls and has extended condolences to the families of the children.
