Judge Mzondi Mvula has sentenced Annie Mumba, 56, to 53 years in prison for the murder of her husband, the late Professor Peter Mumba.

In his judgment, Mvula highlighted the unusual circumstances surrounding the case, noting that Annie delayed calling an ambulance from Bunda, 20 kilometers away, instead of taking her husband to a closer hospital only 5 kilometers away, despite his severe abdominal pain.

The court, based on the evidence presented, ruled Mumba’s death as suspicious (an unnatural death).

Professor Peter Mumba, a Chemistry lecturer at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), was killed four years ago after consuming a meal reportedly laced with poison at their home.
