Ten Ethiopian nationals have been arrested by Immigration Officials at the Northern Region Immigration Office for allegedly entering Malawi illegally on October 30, 2024.
The suspects, all males, were caught hiding in the back of a truck along the M1 road in Mzuzu city’s Geisha area.
According to Francis Chitambuli the Northern Region Department’s Public Relations Officer, they failed to legalize their entry and stay in the country and none of them possessed passports or granted visas upon arrival.
The arrested individuals are accused of violating Section 21(1) of the Malawi Immigration Act and currently are in police custody, awaiting legal proceedings.
