Reports reaching our news desk indicate that the Malawi Police are searching for individuals suspected of attempting to smuggle 5,700 liters of motor oil to Tanzania and Mozambique.

The police spokesman, Mr. Peter Kalaya, confirmed the development, stating that the police seized 27 oil drums, each containing 200 liters of oil.

According to Kalaya, the oil was seized from Lake Malawi in the Nkhata Bay district.

The authorities believe that the owners of the oil intended to sell it outside the country, where prices are higher compared to those in Malawi.

This development comes as Malawi is currently facing a low fuel supply due to foreign exchange issues, resulting in long queues and sleepless nights for motorists at filling stations.
