Police at Mazabuka in Zambia have arrested four ringleaders of a Bachindu clan faction in Mwanachingwala in connection with the installation of another chief, opposing the recently enthroned Jackson Mweene.
Mazabuka District Officer Commanding, James Muluwa, confirmed the development during a visit by Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Nkandu, to Mazabuka Police on Monday afternoon.
Muluwa stated that the four individuals have been detained due to ongoing succession wrangles.
He added that police have launched an investigation into the matter.
The arrested individuals include Pinalo Malambo, brother to the late Chief Mwanachingwala, and Richard Chizooma Choolwe, who was installed as chief.
Others detained are Mwanachingwala Ward Councillor Chemist Munyaka and Malvin Mukuba.
Earlier, Chief Mwanachingwala’s spokesperson, Prince Mutelo, stated that the chiefdom only recognizes Jackson Mweene as Chief Mwanachingwala.
