The High Court sitting in Blantyre will on November 20, 2024 deliver its ruling on an application by state to permanently forfeit property belonging to Norman Chisale; aide to former president Peter Mutharika.

High Court Judge Anneline Kanthambi heard from the state on why it wants to seize the assets worth about K1.7 billion.

Chief State Advocate Pirirani Masanjala argued that it was important that the case is concluded on time as the property might devalue.

Lawyer for ChisaleChancy Gondwe said in his preliminary objections that they want the case dismissed since it was already referred to the Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda for certification as a constitutional matter.

Gondwe further wondered why the state made another application (for forfeiture) when the same case was filed in 2022.
Kanthambi will therefore give her determination on the case on November 20.

Chisale is accused of accumulating the property through proceeds of crime which is against Financial Crimes Act.

The assets were seized in 2021.
