The Luanshya Magistrate’s Court in Zambia has today sentenced former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo to two years of imprisonment with hard labor for unlawful wounding.
Lusambo was convicted of unlawfully wounding Stanley Musukwa, 58, of Luanshya, during the 2019 Roan Constituency Parliamentary by-election.
In his ruling, Magistrate Penstone Chiluba noted that the sentence was intended to deter potential offenders, urging civic leaders to conduct themselves in a manner befitting their positions.
Following the conviction, Lusambo announced on Facebook that he has directed his legal team to file for bail pending appeal, maintaining his innocence.
“All sworn witnesses during the trial testified that we were never near the crime scene. Our conviction was based on claims that those involved acted on our behalf, which is laughable both legally and logically,” Lusambo stated.
He also expressed confidence in the judiciary, praising their efforts to deliver justice despite challenging conditions.
“We are incarcerated, but our spirits are strong, as we had prepared for such an outcome. To our supporters, remain steadfast. Just like President Trump, we will be back to reclaim this country in 2026,” he said.
