Police in Mzimba have arrested a driver named Pilirani Gilbert after he was found in possession of bushbuck meat, killed at Chikangawa forest.

According to Jenda Police spokesperson Macfarlane Mseteka, Gilbert killed the specie when he run over it and he was latter apprehended at a roadblock in Jenda while en route to Lilongwe.

He had reportedly wrapped the bushbuck meat in plastic to conceal it from police.

Mseteka stated that the driver intended to consume the bushbuck meat despite not having the necessary permits to hunt or transport wildlife. In Malawi, bushbucks are among the protected species, making it illegal to harm or handle them without authorization.

Piliran Gilbert hails from Nthundu Village, under Senior Chief Kasakula in Ntchisi District.
