The Malawi National Football Team, popularly known as the Flames, departed today for Abidjan, Ivory Coast, where they will face Burundi in a critical AFCON qualifier match.

The game marks an important step for Malawi as they aim to secure a spot in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Ahead of their departure, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya visited the Flames’ training camp, where he motivated the players and urged them to “secure maximum points and bring the victory home.” His pep talk has further fueled optimism among the team as they prepare to take on Burundi.

Following the match in Abidjan, the Flames will return to conclude their group campaign on Monday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, where they will host Burkina Faso in what promises to be another challenging encounter.

Malawians are eagerly following the Flames’ journey, hopeful for a strong performance that will edge the team closer to AFCON qualification.
