Police in Lilongwe have recovered six plasma screens among other items, valued at K5 million, and arrested three robbery and theft suspects at Zankutu and Chiuzila locations on Monday, 11 November 2024.

Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Hastings Chigalu said the suspects have been identified as Chisomo Samu, 23, Chikondi Dzonzi, 18, and Stain Mpinda, 31.

On Monday at around 03:00 hours, Chisomo and Chikondi, broke into a certain shop at Kaphiri location where they stole a plasma screen, a bicycle, speaker and amplifier.

However, the station’s detectives intercepted the suspects at Bypass, Zankutu location at around 05:00 hours same day while offering the items for sale.

Again on the same day following continued police investigations, detectives arrested Stain Mpinda (third suspect), in Chiuzila location on suspicion that he was one of the nine criminals who in June this year, terrorized several lodges in the city, attacked and robbed customers of their valuable property.

Upon his arrest, the suspect led police to a person where his new team of criminals sold six plasma screens and a solar panel among others.

The three suspects will appear in court soon to answer applicable charges.
