The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has disowned MEC Commissioner Francis Kasaila who the party appointed to represent it at the electoral body following his recent remarks where he backed the use of Smartmatic platform in the electronic transmission of the 2025 election results.

DPPs spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba disowned him at a press briefing by members of opposition party on Tuesday in Lilongwe where they reiterated their demand against the use of Smartmatic technology and calls for MEC chair Anabel Mtalimanja to resign.

Namalomba said the stand taken by Kasaila is not shared by the party which together with other opposition parties feels the technology will be used for rigging the 2025 elections.

Opposition parties in the country have been expressing their frustration with the way the MEC is handling the electoral process and will stage Virgil’s at the electoral body headquarters in protest starting from today.

Among other issues the parties want nothing to do with Smartmatic technology in transmitting the 2025 election results electronically and that MEC chair Anabel Mtalimanja and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mpesi should resign.
