The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has quashed rumours hovering on social media claiming that the former President Peter Mutharika is unwell.
This week social media was awash with reports that Mutharika is unwell and the development forced him to suspend voter registration awareness campaign targeting districts in the eastern region.
But reacting to the reports DPP spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba described the rumours as false.
“Let me be clear, these claims are baseless and completely untrue. As the DPP Presidential Spokesperson, I want to reassure the people of Malawi that His Excellency is in good health and actively participating in important party events,” said Namalomba.
Namalomba also hinted that Mutharika will on Friday preside over an orientation of the newly elected National Governing Council (NGC) meeting which which will be followed by DPP blue night fundraising dinner and dance on Saturday.
According to Namalomba, Mutharika on Tuesday he is scheduled to be in Thyolo where he will register with the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) ahead of the 2025 polls.
